More and more prescription plans are forcing their insured to mail away their prescriptions to outfits such as Medco , CVSCaremak, and ExpressScripts. The truth is that as a patient , you have the choice to stay with your local pharmacy that has been there for your service many years. Their methods include contacting the patient by mail and by telephone and they will not stop until you agree to mail your next prescription to them . They'll even make it so easy that they will contact your doctor and get a prescription for 90 days . Think about it. How is it cheaper to send 90 days of medications as compared to 30 days from a pharmacy? Yes they will charge you cheaper co-pay for the 90 days but you end up with piles of meds that when the Dr. makes any changes, they will have to be wasted.
Did you ever ask yourself who fills these prescription ?
Or How it was mailed in what weather conditions? Or, Who do I call when I have a question? Or, what if I don't get it on time ? Or, what do they do for your local economy, do they pay local taxes and hire local employees? Do they donate to the many local churches and organizations.
The more patients choose to go the mail order way, the more likely that your small hometown corner store pharmacies will become extinct.
I can not imagine Montrose without its corner pharmacy. Can you ?
